The Social Study Opens this Week

Things seem to be buzzing these days on Fillmore St. Last week, State Bird Provisions and Holy Dog opened their doors and this week, another new kid joins the block.

The Social Study, now soft-open, officially open Wednesday, Jan. 11, is a great new addition to the neighborhood that is part café, part lounge and part bar.

It has a cozy, vintage aesthetic that makes you feel like your in the neighborhood’s own little living room. There’s a communal table and a long wooden bar. And what’s cool about this place is the bright blue wall equipped with disguised fold-down seats (think the seats that flight attendents sit in). There’s also wi-fi, art, books and great music.

The Social Study will also have movie nights (The Karate Kid is first in the queue) with themed drinks, as well as a DJ (Doc Fu) and house band (Hot Pocket) who’ll play on their lofted indoor balcony.

The food is characterized as “rustic bites” on their Facebook page. On the menu are things like Crazy Corn (lightly crisped seasonal hominy) and Chocolate Bacon, as well as bigger bites like the Japantown Reuben (corned beef, tsukemono, swiss, and wasabi aioli) and the Muni-referencing “38 Limited”, a sourdough ‘wich with mortadella, salami, prosciutto, coppa, mozzarella, provolone. and arugula.

They are also serving up Four Barrel coffee and local and imported wine and beerby the bottle and on tap. The menu also includes housemade

and cocktails (they’ve even got one that’s made of Guinness, four shots of espresso and a drizzle of chocolate syrup).

I live in Pacific Heights and I’m so excited the about all the new places opening up. Can’t wait to check out movie night…The Karate Kid?! I’m in LOVE with this place already!
